Internal Investigations

Over the past decade, our firm has frequently served as “external investigators” for institutions needing prompt, thorough, and unbiased investigation of serious internal allegations. Not only do we help institutions fulfill their legal obligation to investigate harassment and other serious allegations, but we also help resolve politically sensitive claims of fraud or malfeasance implicating board members or senior management. We are trained and experienced in investigation techniques and know how to advise senior management effectively and discretely.

Our investigation experience includes:

  • Allegations of sexual and race harassment and “whistleblower” claims by female workers against co-workers and senior management.
  • Allegations of sexual harassment made against VP of Human Resources by assistant.
  • Allegations of resume fraud made against academic administrator.
  • Cross-allegations of financial mismanagement and sexual harassment by senior administrators within Presidential cabinet.
  • Alleged breach of confidentiality in connection with academic misconduct proceedings.
  • Faculty complaints of alleged gender-based pay inequities at a public institution.

When appropriate, we also help our clients engage neutral, outside investigators to advise governing boards and administrators; we then work with those investigators to design investigative protocols that maintain privilege and promote effective investigation. Our goal is always to help the institution evaluate complaints promptly, thoroughly, and fairly, while minimizing disruption to work and relationships within the institution.
